And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. John 8:29-33
There clearly are caveats and qualifications set forth in this passage required to know the Truth, but the promise of being set free is something that entices all Americans not simply believers. In fact, this line is repeated as common phraseology by many Americans regardless of social group or genre. We all know the power of truth and demand to find ourselves surrounded by the truth so we may be free from the controlling influences and intention of evil manipulations. I have yet to have a single person disagree with this powerful ideal from the Bible. The Truth truly does set you free.
So if the Truth sets us free then the lie must be a powerful weapon to create bondage. The control or creation of lies would in fact become a professional study in order to massage, create or manipulate public thinking. Politicians would prize this professional capacity to create and disseminate lies that they may sway public opinion toward elections, power maintenance and as a tool to bring about the desired end state of an individual leader or party. The Lie becomes a tool not simply some distasteful reputation character or unfortunate mistake it becomes the objective.
Knowing this reality and their intention it becomes essential for every person to have that capacity to discern the lie that they may never be placed into captivity of the lie. According to John it requires abiding in Jesus and believing to become a disciple and then be given the truth in order to be set free. What then shall unbelievers do to protect themselves from the abuses of captivity to the lies set before them? Is the pervasive lie being told by our government, media and our politicians that prevalent in society that we must development defense mechanisms against that machinery? If it is as bad as we asserted then each of us must be fully educated in the discernment, avoidance and evasion of the narrative designed to enslave our thinking.
What then are those steps necessary to identifying this circumstance and taking precautions and actions to escape the lasso of prevarication? How do we maintain a hopeful understanding of events with clear evaluation techniques that we may make sound decisions within the midst of modern mastery of misinformation or disinformation? Well, being a Christian Pastor I would say simply believe and abide in Jesus and be given the truth and the power of discernment, but for those of you who are reticent or stubborn to go that route you must begin to closely study and research the actual from the projected.
We know that there are enemies set against us remaining free people. We must identify those people and the sources and avenues of information they use in their attempts to enslave popular thought. It requires, no demands a return to self study, without which the source or content of information may not be trusted or past one to other thinkers. Telling the truth and maintaining clarity and rarity of verified information is perhaps a civic responsibility as we owe it to our neighbor to educate each other and watch each other’s back against the powerful capacity to capture and enslave our brethren and neighbors. Yes, the Truth will set you free, but you must first obtain that Truth before Freedom is possible.
With God all things are possible. For those listening who do not believe you will have to employ enormous effort and diligence to find, keep and pass on to those you love that truth that will keep them from enslavement to narrative campaign.
