Big Gulps.

Movement and pause, both in service of the Lord but for different outcomes though both demonstrative of obedience and Love. Taking action any action is always somehow relieving, perhaps fulfilling the sensory compulsion to defeat power poverty. You see if I am doing something or appear to be going somewhere even under my own locomotion and design, it fulfills the world’s requirement of productivity. Productivity has two measures those bits of work that produce widgets and those precisely determined workings that deliver the desired outcomes of abundance. In my case actions taken on my own are typically produce the lesser kind. But Pause, now that is an untrained discipline for what teacher would ever venture a child to pause, take the Lord’s counsel and then proceed having meditated upon His Word and Prayer?

That is the missing component in our social acumen. Having been replaced by a worldly expression of meditation upon nothing in hopes that something develops from the void. We have forgotten David’s words that recommended our song, our prayer, our reflection in deep meditation upon the things of God. And in so doing have dissipated, limited or clearly cut off the active connection of counsel with Almighty God. If we knew how to pause, even momentarily between each functional period of productivity we would maintain that Spirit’s filling or continuous filling of the vacuous ominous unknown.

Action is perfect when following the skinny path of God or having been taken in direct response to command of Almighty God. Action for the sake of appearance or movement is quite the foolish item, expending assets, time and energy that may have been further dedicated to the outcomes of God’s Purposes. What then is the perfect balance. Although it is certain that there is a perfect point of leverage and utilization between pause and pursuit, that equanimity must be found in conversations with God.  Take some time, spend some time just living in the sight of God. Take actions that are clearly from Him and as this practice builds faith and response to His direction those points of leveraged importance will become clear and determined. Let us remember as caution what happened to David each time that He ventured out on his own pursuits without consultation with God. Failure and tragedy always ensued.

Lord, let me pause for the precise amount of time in order for your plans to come together that I might be in the perfect place at perfect timing with the exact assets and empowerment necessary to bring about the change you’ve determined. Let the pause become a tool in my service not a hindrance or concern as patience does its perfect work making me more closely resemble You. In Jesus’ Holy Name.
