Definition of indomitable
: incapable of being subdued : UNCONQUERABLE
The product of being unconquerable is perhaps a lengthy and scantly understood process. To comprehend its vast array of expressive powers we must first investigate the limitations of being unconquerable. Yes, limitations. You ask, “How can something be indomitable and yet have limitations”? Great question, glad you asked.
Considering the definition in Webster’s utilizes the word subdued as an inherent foundation to explain unconquerable we must begin with an understanding of what it means to be subdued. Webster’s states that subdued is:
Definition of subdued
: lacking in vitality, intensity, or strength
So the state at which we are conquerable is a point at which we are lacking in vitality, intensity or strength. This devastating combination of the elements appears to indicate a relative powerlessness that inhibits the indomitable circumstance or subdues its arising within the human spirit. Then in order to create a situation where it is impossible for my foes to acquire that indomitable Spirit I must prohibit their collection, store, understanding or connection to sources of vitality, intensity and strength. This begs investigation into these vital words if in fact they are the narrow pathway to an unconquerable man or woman.
Definition of vitality
1a: lively and animated character
b: power of enduring
2a: the peculiarity distinguishing the living from the nonliving
b: capacity to live and develop also : physical or mental vigor especially when highly developed
The first thing that strikes the reader of this definition is the frequency of the word, Life or the process of Living. Vitality is a measure of the potency of a person’s life force, that force intrinsic to a human that indicates a robust allocation, understanding or demonstration of the verve of life. It also indicates in a lesser extent the timelessness surrounding the quality of this life exuberance. To be vital one must possess the enduring qualities that make it a considerable force over-time and have the learning facets to build upon the primary verve for life as it grows toward a mature unconquerable understanding. It is also enlightening to see that vitality encompasses several parts of the foundations of man including the physical and mental aspects. It must be said that perhaps Webster should have added to Spiritual aspects of maturity, faith and enduring/sanctifying qualities of vitality to that mix, but we shall leave that to the reader’s discernment.
Definition of intensity
1: the quality or state of being intense especially : extreme degree of strength, force, energy, or feeling
2: the magnitude of a quantity (such as force or energy) per unit (as of area, charge, mass, or time)
I thought perhaps this description would simplify or clarify our understanding of vitality but it indeed in my mind has increased the need for broad understanding and meditation upon the components of this enduring, qualitative state of mind for now we are seeing that it encompasses the realms of emotion, physicality, spirituality and energetic display through measurable magnitude. In fact this definition includes the idea that to be intense is a peculiar state that is described as extreme within the parameters of this definition. So, intensity which is a primary defense against being subdued which in turn makes the unconquerable state unreachable is a peculiar quality that is extreme and includes multi-functional operating capacity spanning across thought, emotion, physical power and mental endurance. This peculiarity again references the need to be measured over time making it more a measure by calculus than simple geometry as it is a function of longevity and a measure of this energetic display over a time period.

Perhaps, in reviewing this noun we find the complexity of the state in which an indomitable spirit may birth, grow and mature, for strength in necessity appears the primary measure of the quality of the unconquerable effort. We now perceive that intensity requires the inclusion of the spiritual qualities of endurance along with a physical make-up and display of the measures of rigid substructure that in itself is defense against intrusion or penetration. We also see the robust qualities of the word, strength, in its capacity to describe a certain Willful Expression or display of enduring or intense force to stand against time, offense or even attitude in it is insurmountable nature. This word also describes a perceivable understanding and visual or palpable measure of that strength to the extent that onlookers see it visible in their estimation of a person’s psyche and physical capacity. Strength is a primarily an expression of VIGOR, if so then we must investigate the origins of this word to receive complete understanding.
Definition of vigor
1: active bodily or mental strength or force
2: active healthy well-balanced growth especially of plants
3: intensity of action or effect : FORCE
4: effective legal status
We are now confronted with the inclusion of active participation in the complete processing and identification of that “strength” within each body. That not only is the quality a potential energy but also kinetic in its foundation such that without the visible measure of the active VIGOR of such enduring or physical/mental/spiritual force of strength it may not exist. To be it cannot simply be it must be expressed through the subsequent actions and demonstration of its qualities in physical manifestation. So strength is not simply a concept, just as vitality and unconquerable spirits survive the tests of time strength must also be displayed for a period of time to achieve its vigorous nature. Additionally, vigor expresses the concept of health as an inherent quality to this strength, vitality and intensity by nature. So we are now arrived at a broader understanding of the indomitable spirit in its physical manifestation, its intense nature, its vitality and its health all being necessary to express or achieve the capacity for an unconquerable nature and mental understanding.
So, we now have a broader concept and visualization of the components of an indomitable situation, person or spirit. Now we must investigate this peculiarity and see if it is in fact available to every man and woman for it may well indeed be the determining factor in our success or failure going forward in the turgid pages of history’s unfolding. Is it something we may acquire, gain, grow and position or practice that we become intelligent and experienced in its operative qualities that we may, at will, reflect the qualities of an unconquerable nature?
First we must make personal inventory of the presence of the components and the limiting factors that encourage or inhibit that indomitable spirit’s existence within our own hearts, minds and action. Are we subdued, meaning are we lacking intensity, vitality, strength, vigor? Do these qualities elude you and do you find yourself a victim to circumstance or the weighty pressures of the world’s gravity? Or are you that person that goes forward into any circumstance with an incalculable, seemingly illogical peculiarity of purpose and power allows you to endure as a victor throughout the tests, troubles and trials of life?
Let’s be honest if we are subdued this portends a prison of some sort, having been subdued by the circumstance and thus confined to the limitations that will prohibit and effectively deny the state of mind and the active vitality necessary to being an overcomer. And for those of you who have put your faith and trust in God you have begun to see words that are prevalent throughout the Bible in its description of the overcomer; Peculiar, abundance, vigor, courage, these are all words synonymous with the attitude of the believer. The unique thing to outsides looking in is that these qualities are not gained through process or achievement but given as acceptance of belief in faith. This concept astounds the parameters of normalcy, thus Peculiar.
Now that we have done a self-reflective inventory and know whether we have those rare qualities necessary to achieving or realizing an unconquerable attitude or strength, we may now commit to becoming that person or denying it is achievable. On which side do you find yourself; believing that the indomitable spirit, strength and set of actions are real and achievable or that we have accepted the position of a subdued nature in which case denying that indomitable anything is a possible or probable state?
Okay, that you are continuing in the process of reading this document I will assume that you in fact are now in agreement that an indomitable spirit, though rare and peculiar does exist and is achievable through some currently unknown process or understanding. Let us go forward and find out how we might reach that point or arrive at that state having been led there by a consistent process and understanding.
The etymology of the word vigor from around 1300, Latin or French gives us a new understanding of the complexity of this life and how it might be to some extent mastered through the overwhelming perspective. That is not meant in the “self help” version of overcoming but rather an understanding and wisdom insight into life giving the believer a complex and robust comprehension of the enemy’s personal assault upon the psyche and the fact that there are states opposite that onslaught which are achievable, persistent and victorious. The original definition of vigor comes with it the physical strength of a person who is lively in their expression of Life. Wow, that is deep. You mean I can live but not be lively in my expression of that Life and therefore appear powerless or subdued, absent a consistent impermeability to the negative forces we all face? Well, YES.
Christ said that He came that we might have life and have it in abundance. Does that seem consistent with my attempts to explain this millennium old expression of an understanding that a vigorous life is that expression of which Christ referenced?
Okay, so in having a verve for life we find the foundation of our strength and that strength and its intense expression are the enduring and necessary components of an indomitable spirit. So if I don’t have the verve for Life as I have acknowledged in my self analysis, then how do I get it. That begins with thanks, gratefulness and contentment. For we cannot be full of a life and expressing our lively abundance for life without accepting our current position and being grateful for all that we have or don’t have in its expression of God’s Will for our lives. Am I content and appreciative of the life I have or perhaps am I bitter not having the things or components I feel are necessary to achieve that contentment? Yes, that is a hard one and may take some time to absorb.
Second, we must recognize the enemy that we face is unbeatable through our own strength and dominion. What? How can I be indomitable if I am facing an overwhelming set of forces that I may never overcome?
Exactly. The indomitable spirit is that nature that looks with a peculiar eye to the impossible or unbeatable foe. What? I know give it few seconds it will soak in. How can you be indomitable without an unbeatable foe? If everything around you is within your power to accomplish, achieve, overcome or better, why would you ever need to be unconquerable? Ah, hah, he’s not such an idiot. Perhaps I will read a bit more of what he is saying to me. Having an enemy that is unbeatable is the exact and frankly only reason that we need an indomitable spirit. So, the quicker we realize that we are in a war that we cannot win without supernatural assistance the quicker we will get to the understanding of how to obtain, utilize and master those components of our supernatural gifting. Okay, now my brain hurts.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10
You knew that it was only a matter of time before we would be forced to look at the consistent scripture references that match cohesively the descriptions of similar characteristics shared by believers and those with unconquerable Spirit. What we have in the text above is reference to the peculiar nature of believers in a world that does not understand the compunction to be content, overcoming our circumstances through worship and praise of God’s infinite wisdom. Perhaps this may be an appropriate moment to contemplate both the wisdom of that statement and its functional place within an indomitable perspective?
Now you have forced into investigation of the Biblical principle of being an overcomer. Let us look at what Webster’s has to say about that term;
o·ver·come
/ˌōvərˈkəm/

Now we are forced to grasp the fact that indomitable Spirit is mandate in the ability and history of overcoming or being successive in defeating those opposing forces that threaten to overwhelm humans. Additionally this definition encompasses those handicaps or emotional states that must be defeated in order to live a normal life. Well, since we have established that the indomitable Spirit and Christian Faith share a Peculiar Nature of overcoming circumstance by supernatural ability at contentment and gratitude, we are now faced with the understanding that it is not a normal occurrence. Therefore those who do overcome outrageous circumstance, odds or handicaps are in fact demonstrating that Peculiar nature incumbent to Christian Faith.
Revelation 3:20-22 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. To the one who is victorious, I will grant the right to sit with me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”…
So why should we be overcomers, have indomitable Spirits or remain impervious to the combined assaults of this world and those fallen from heaven? Again as in the concept that we don’t ever have to be indomitable without something beyond our capacity to personally handle, the indomitable Spirit shall never be reflected, entertained or maintained and grown without a purpose of recompense. In this instance the Bible shows us that for the overcomer there remains a reward in heaven. Perhaps that is the greatest personal reason to overcome, but there may be others. We cannot say that it is simply a requirement of life that we be overcomers for there are many who live this life and never overcome anything including their own circumstances. It is a peculiar thing, that is not normal and appears to have a supernatural intention. Therefore, it must have its origins for creation, maintenance and increase firmly entrenched in the ideals of Biblical Victory.
In concession it must be mentioned that there will be examples throughout history of unbelievers overcoming tragic, inhumane and difficult or impossible personal circumstance. However, the Bible accounts for this as the Lord chooses whom he blesses and curses. What must be established and agreed upon is that this ability or uncanny personal measure is in fact peculiar behavior, not the norm for if it were then everyone choosing some self help program of overcoming would make the pages of history with the stories of their indomitable victory, at which point this situation that we have already deemed peculiar by nature would cease being unusual and thus transform by definition. So whatever your belief the indomitable Spirit, Is in fact Peculiar by definition and therefore must be viewed outside the realm of NORMAL description and causality.
Okay so let’s recap. Having an indomitable Spirit is something peculiar, It encompasses those qualities of physical victory and strength, focused endurance, emotional stamina, a verve for existence and an ever increasing dose of maturity that strengthens to capacity to resist whatever assaults are mounted against a person’s defense.
The Bible speaks to these unique qualities as having been sponsored by one’s faithful decision to be transformed and indwelt by the Power of God’s Holy Spirit. It also points out the peculiar nature of the unconquerable qualities of man and that they reside within that relationship to the Supernatural authority and power of God through Christ residing in each believer sealed by the Holy Spirit. When one believes even in the smallest component that they have been given the graces and mercies of God and become grateful for their current circumstance and life position even to the denial of its difficulty or impossibility, they then make their lives susceptible to the Bible tenets declaring that nothing is impossible to that believer through Christ.
Additionally, little is known in the world of creating, maintaining and growing an indomitable spirit for all disciplines of life. Perhaps there are those in business, or sports or meditative disciplines but few are found in the scope incumbent to Biblical Life Lessons and broad based living as a victor. Why do you need to overcome your circumstances or win the battle that rages before you? Are you forced into that battle having been afforded no choice or had that choice removed by the enslaving intention of tyrants? What is the reward for being an overcomer, does it match your expectations and is everyone committed to achieving that victorious measure? Is the indomitable Spirit absolutely imperative to winning not only this day but the entirety of the scripting for your existence? Where is the force, wisdom, consistency, endurance, strength and Joy for Live found to create, enhance and sustain an indomitable perspective?
This is the wonderful thing about Choice, you get to answer these questions based upon your own desires and reflection. Whatever your faith position we have firmly established that the indomitable Spirit is not had by all, being peculiar by definition. We have further established that it includes by nature the impossible task association which forces the question of its supernatural origin and we have determined that since it is not normal, not typical and requires a unique combination of strength, emotion, endurance, abundance, thankfulness and understanding it may in fact only come from the blessings of Almighty God upon the few.
How do you get the indomitable Spirit? Well one of two ways; you seek it if you possess the unique strain of those components peculiar to its nature and continue with all energy to capture its nature and reside safely in the knowledge of coming victory where the rewards are simple personal, temporary and tangible, OR you believe upon Christ, asking for salvation and sanctification in which case you are given those enduring, strength and wisdom qualities by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit such that EVERY Christian is promised to perform the impossible task against an unbeatable enemy, one who has already been defeated by God.
Frankly in my self evaluation I realized that I do not have the components, talent, strength or enduring qualities necessary to developing an indomitable spirit via my own efforts of self-help. So admitting this reality my only hope is in Christ to deliver me that point of unconquerable nature through the avenue of my gratitude, contentment and faith in my current position fully empowered by my faithful knowledge that the Lord will do the impossible through me and in me to provide that enduring nature inconsistent with my making.
For that purpose and for all those out there who want to overcome this world and everything in it. For those who want to defeat an enemy that for our worldly selves is unbeatable. For those who want the benefits, rewards and promise of doing the impossible simply because God says that we can. For those who are tired of being a victim in this world where you are outmatched, outgunned, out witted and overwhelmed, FIND that Indomitable Spirit through Christ who promises it to every believer who maintains their faith, hope and trust in God. Are you an overcomer or a want to be overcomer, because we all at some point want to win and be victorious in this life and the next? I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Do the impossible every time, Trust in God through Christ Jesus. The indomitable Spirit awaits, the choice remains yours.
