Dusty tales of camaraderie and conquest. Stories of long, arduous days of overcoming, followed by devoted, peaceful nights in communal reflection over fruitful journey. Shared belief, mutual respect, understanding and unexplainable tranquility in the midst of struggle, knowing that promised provision will come. Not bounty built of group vanity, planning or combined effort and strength, but grace. Belief that the Lord, our Father will provide sanctity, sacrament and sourcing for all our need, just as His word and our history foretells.
The dead especially know our future, having specific understanding of our combined fate. They are godless, for the Lord is not God of the dead, but of the living who passed from this plane into life everlasting. For believers, death has lost its sting. Only the dead know the separation to which many of us are headed. They would cry out, beseeching us to turn back toward God, but we would not listen. Most ask me to tell sweet, romantic lullabies of a bright future for mankind, but I know that the truth is stark, real and tells of a considerably different end. We have created our own destiny through careless words and disobedient action. Let the words of the prophet Isaiah speak for the Lord where my words would fail perhaps His may shake you from slumber. Isaiah 24:1-13;
The Lords Devastation of the Earth
See, the Lord is going to lay waste to the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants– it will be the same for priest as for people, for master as for servant, for mistress as for maid, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor. The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The Lord has spoken this word. The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the exalted of the earth languish. The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left. The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all merrymakers groan. The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent. No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers. The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred. In all the streets they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all gaiety is banished from the earth. The city is left in ruins, its gate is battered to pieces. So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.
Thank you Most High God for this instructive word. I will listen to your command, repent of my sin and seek Your face, my only righteousness is You. Your will be done, on earth as in Heaven. Praise Your Mighty, Holy Name. In Jesus I find prayer, solace and peace.
